From the quartz revolution to diversification
Success in the Swiss watchmaking industry provides Cicorel with a strong foundation for expanding into new markets. In 1990, we begin to systematically diversify our business. New customers from the consumer goods, industrial electronics and medical technology sectors broaden our customer base.
As we diversify, our organisation continues to evolve as well. In 1991, Cicorel moves its headquarters to Crissier and redefines the roles of its Crissier and La Chaux-de-Fonds sites. Two years later, we plan to establish a site in Ismaning, Germany, for development, design and sales.
In 1994, four members of executive management take over Cicorel as part of a management buy-out. In the same year, we obtain ISO 9001 certification – an important milestone for our professional quality management.
Our broader focus becomes evident the following year. The areas of chip cards and medical technology experience particularly strong growth. Our customer base is increasingly spread across different industries, laying a stable foundation for further diversification.
To remain successful in the long term, however, we must look beyond our existing markets – with a vision that extends far beyond what we have achieved to date.
