Electronics conquer the market, Cicor grows with it
In the early 1970s, increasing automation transforms industrial manufacturing, making processes more precise and efficient.
At the same time, demand for quartz technology is growing within the Swiss watchmaking industry. More and more luxury watch manufacturers rely on Cicorel printed circuit boards. As a result, the watchmaking industry becomes our most important market at the time and a key driver of our growth.
In 1975, a new ownership structure provides the financial flexibility to expand our production and invest in new technologies. In 1979, we introduce roll-to-roll production of TAB circuits – a pioneering process at the time. Between 1981 and 1983, the acquisition of a Nivarox production facility and of Bentronic S.A. enables us to double our production capacity and expand our technology and product portfolio.
Swiss quartz watches achieve global success with the launch of Swatch in 1983. As a key supplier, we benefit from this upturn.
Success in the watchmaking industry lays the foundation for the next stage of our development. But how can we transfer the expertise we have gained to other industries?
